To actually answer the question;
It depends on what tires you are running. If you are running (or want to run) 35's a Dana 44 and a built Dana 35 are about the same. Ofc a built Dana 44 like you are in the market for will be stronger than a Super 35; but the difference might not be worth the effort. If you are only even going to run 33's; seriously look into a Super 35 kit. You said
wanted to "just get [a] Dana 44, again with 456 chromoly already build" when you say again do you mean your Dana 35 already has chromoly axles? If so you already have a Super 35 and there is no need to upgrade unless you are going larger that 35 inch tires (which takes infinitely more work to do properly that just an axle swap).
A Dana 44 brand new built will be close to 5 grand; a 'junkyard' Dana 44, even from another TJ will cost you close to 4 grand by the time you regear; install a locker; new shafts; refresh the brakes (or go with BlackMagic brakes) and repaint. So consider your needs compared to the cost.
As for G2; I havn't heard a lot of negative; but I have never heard anyone say anything positive. Additionally; I never see hardcore offroaders running G2 axles. If those guys buy a prebuilt axle its a Currie/RockJock. G2 axles tend to be under the mall crawler JKS. If going the prebuilt route Eastcoast Gear Supply has a good reputation and are slightly more affordable than the name brand (RockJock).
