Ever since I got it a year ago, I've noted that the brake pedal has no assist when the engine is off. Every other car I've owned will hold the vacuum assist with the engine off for 2-3 depressions of the pedal.
With the engine on, the brake pedal seems normal-to-firm (a bit stiffer than my E350 and Civic), which I attributed to larger diameter tires (33"; BMB pads/centric rotors front and rear).
I've inspected the check valve and grommet at the brake booster. They look normal; I removed the check valve and unlike Mega Maid it doesn't go from suck to blow. I floated some smoke around the booster immediately after engine shut-off and don't hear or see any air moving.
Since it functions normally while driving, I haven't worried about it much. However, when I've had to park on some steep trails it's a bit nerve-wracking to depress the clutch and have to leg-press the pedal down while starting the engine.
Any further diagnostic suggestions?
