Lube between grill and cover

I'm taking off the chrome cover today to paint. Is there any lubricant for rust I should use to grease the grill before putting the cover back on?

I did the same thing, I just put a good coat of wax on the paint behind the overlay and reinstalled. The paint looked fine underneath so I'm thinking it should be fine for another 14 yrs.
