Hi All from South Africa
I had an installer do work for me with brand new gears and OX Locker which has turned out to be an expensive disaster. Besides the other issues , the OX locker that was installed on the rear Dana 44 turns out was never connected. When the cable was thrown all that happened was the cable seemed to "crunch up and deform" inside the diff piston area. The reason i know this as i could tell it never locked and when i took the cable out to use the manual locker tool I could see that it was not connected.
I have written 3 times to OX on their site but no response. Perhaps their is somebody from this forum that is knowledgeable on OX lockers or is affiliated or can ask OX to help me with support.
1) The install diagrams talk of threading the cable 17 turns into the shift fork. As you can see from the pic i took there is no threads on the inside of the piston attached to the shift fork. I tested with a same thread bolt as the cable it just slides in with at least .0.5mm ( 0,019685 inches) clearance all round. a 6mm screwdriver slides in and out with no resistance. A 6mm thread has a 5mm hole ( 1mm for the thread pitch).
2) The shift fork when moved manually with diff cover off , piston feels very hard to move i would have expected a much easier action and i am sure given this is cable operated it needs a slick easy action. The piston had sufficient lubricating gear oil Castrol 75w140.
3)The 78mm TJ cable ( part number attached) got damaged during the initial install as it was never threaded into the shift fork . The cable was just screwed into the diff and left not sure how two Jeep installers in SA could not get this right.
4) I could manually activate the locker with the drive away tool, I took TJ out on a fairly tough trail i could feel the locker was active and worked well so for that very thankful.
Regards Steve
