2006 LJ,4.0, 6 speed, atlas 4 speed; brand new clutch and throw out bearing and new bearing guide retainer. I just got it out of the shop. I also just put a new to me, used low mile (20k miles) transmission in it as well.
Only In 4x4, coasting, transmission in neutral OR with the clutch depressed there is all types of loud chatter going on, really loud. As soon as it’s under load again it’s quiet and it seems to pull just fine in 4x4 without any unusual noise.
In 2wd it’s 100% quiet
It’s also difficult to put in and out of 4x4, especially 4h, it’s difficult to get the synchronizes to line up but that can be an adjustment issue.
Thoughts on the noise? Clutch? Front diff gears ? Transfer case?
