NP 231 transfer case range shaft seal leaking

New member here ...my transfer case shifter range shaft is leaking can this seal/O-ring be replaced with TC in the Jeep ?...have a new one on hand & looks pretty easy to install but how do you get the old nylon retainer ring out without damage to shaft/case ?...thanks for any help

Yes you can replace it while it's in the jeep. I would suggest removing the skid pan and support the TC with a jack stand. This will give you much more room.

That's what I was thinking but after I got it in my hand it's so small that I was about to pull case...Think I'll heat a 90* pick with a torch & see if I can melt some purchase holes in the outer plastic ring then pull it out then O-ring should not be a problem...at least I have a rack to lift it on & at 70 I need all the help I can get ...LOL ...thanks for the help & response seems like this bunch is a bit standoffish but that's ok ... thanks again & take care

I would put the shifter in neutral. When you put the nut back on I would use blue locktite.
