NP231 Transfer case

Will any NP231 transfer case fit in my 2000 TJ? Is there something specific I can look for to ensure it will fit.

The easiest thing to do would be get one from 97-02 which is already set up for your type of transmission.

The reason I'm asking is I can get one pretty cheap, they don't know where it came from.
So I'd like to know if they will all fit with some modification?

They will be the same except for the input gear. You will need to swap it out if it's not the same as yours.

The factory Mopar part number for the NP 231 transfer case on 97-02 models with automatic transmissions is 52099211.

The factory Mopar part number for the NP 231 transfer case on 97-02 models with manual transmissions is 52099364AF.

The factory Mopar part number for the NP 231 transfer case on 03-06 models with automatic transmissions is RL105886AE.

The factory Mopar part number for the NP 231 transfer case on 03-06 models with manual transmissions RL105887AE

I suggest looking at eBay or http://car-part.com. You'll easily find what you're looking for there.

Make sure it's an NP231 J out of a Jeep. The Dodge and Chevrolet NP231's don't bolt up.
