NP231 won't hold Low Range

A buddy's TJ NP231 won't hold Low Range and pops out under load. Encouraging him to get the Savvy shift linkage but reading further I suppose we should disco the linkage, manually shift to LR and test on the trail. If it stays in place that should eliminate internals. Also, we're not really familiar with the new to him TJ, lifted, on 37s. Guess it could be a BL issue if there is a BL. Brainstorming out loud.

It sounds like it's not quite getting into 4LO.

Just do the test with the vehicle parked. Have him shift into 4LO, mark the position of the shaft on the TC, then disconnect the linkage and manually shift it to see if the shaft has any further travel.

The spring-loaded detents are pretty strong, so if it misses full travel by even a little bit, it will pop out.

the only time I've ever had that happen, it wasn't all the way in due to a linkage/shifter issue. I actually had the Savvy shifter already, but it was connected to one of those old school, upright transfer case shift levers that wasn't shaped properly to reach all the way to both 2H and 4L without hitting something.
