NV231 Rear Output Shaft Leaking

I have what I believe to be a significant rear output shaft leak that is spinning fluid all over my rear end .

Does anyone have any tips for removing and replacing this? Is the seal something that just goes bad eventually?

Yep, like all seals, that one goes bad as well. The procedure is outlined in the FSM (which I'm sure you know). This video is for a NP231 from a Cherokee XJ, but it's the same procedure:

I have zero lock ring pliers, anyone have any idea the set he was using in that video? Going to napa tomorrow and hoping I can pick up a pair there.

That lock ring is a PITA. Make sure you get some pliers like he had. It's not an actual snap ring that has holes in the ends. Might as well put in an SYE while your under there. Lol

Damn, if you were closer you could use mine. You definitely need those pliers. Trying to jimmy it will damage the ring.

You are telling me, usually I don't mind doing it but everything is starting to leak lol.
