Odometer Mileage Reduced

Howdy, Jeepers. My 2000 4.0 TJ has been in shop jail a bunch of times in the last year. Recently, I fired my old shop and found a really good one. Also, recently, I got an oil change and noted that the mileage logged for the last change was about 1500 miles higher than that shown on my odometer. It seems that I lost maybe 3000 odometer miles and I don't know just when. My question is what the heck could have caused this?

either you or the mechanic who did the last oil change need to step back, put the BEER/LIKEER BOTTLE down and come back and take another look at it in a few hours !

Whomever documented the mileage probably misprinted what the actual mileage was OR they need a new set of glasses.

Maybe he changed your oil and drove it in reverse for 3000 miles.

OK, you guys make a good case for the obvious, that the mileage had been mislogged before. I like to deliver straight lines now and then, so that's it for now. Thank ye kindly.
