I purchased a 2004 TJ Sport with a salvage title, knowing it had been in a flood. I didn't realize how high the flood waters came until I removed the instrument cluster & found the PC Board beyond repair. The Jeep had 104,000+ original miles which were supported by a CARFAX report. I purchased a used TJ cluster PC Board, with the correct connectors & everything was better - except the odometer. I traded my 104,000+ miles for 164,000+ miles on the new cluster odometer.
After watching lotsa videos & fixes, I asssumed my best solution was to swap the Philips 8 pin SOIC EEPROM #8613AA with the one on the original board as that part didn't show water damage or corrosion (I do electronics for a living & the swap went fine). I put everything back together hoping to see 104,000+ miles on the odometer but unfortunately I didn't - I still see the 164,000+ which was on the new cluster. I have read that the mileage is stored in both the cluster & the ECU but that doesn't make sense as there are plenty of companies out there who will reprogram your cluster with a burner (which may or may not be illegal in this instance).
Yes, I can buy a burner & revert back to the mileage which I purchased the Jeep or I can send it to one of the companies, many called out on this forum, who charge $100 or so to reprogram. I'm looking to see if there's an easier way & if someone came across it in the past.
