I've been thinking of selling my 2004 TJ moving to an Unlimited Rubicon. More room and I've wanted a Rubicon for a while.

An old coworker, now retired, saw me and the Jeep today and said how much he loved it and asked if I wanted to sell it. I said I was thinking about it.

He said, I will give you $14k for it.
Heck that's more than double what I paid for it.
That's seems like an offer I can't refuse. My 2004 is an X model with 165,000 miles on it. Pretty basic 6cyl jeep. 2" lift, newer tires and i clean, but not perfect.

I haven't drilled down the rabbit hole on what it's worth, but I'm thinking it's pretty fair for me

One word of caution..I feel 14k is very fair but be careful about selling to someone you know because then you will be married to the damn thing until one of them dies...every little issue and your phone will ring..I try very hard to not sell things to people I know even if they aren't close friends

If you’ve been thinking about moving it and are comfortable with it’s condition selling it to a friend, tell him to put his money where his mouth is. Just know you may need to double that to find what you want…

That seems like a very good offer for your Jeep. A LJ Rubicon could cost 24 grand so do you have 10 g’s to add to the 14?

He's a retired co-worker. I don't know him all that well, so not a friend.
Yeah, I know it's gonna run me a chunk to get what I'm looking for. But I'm in no rush.

They are out there, and if you’re not dead set on a rubicon, you could get an LJ, an atlas and a dana 44 for probably what you’d spend on a rubicon lj. Just a thought….

Also, post some pics of your Jeep but if you’re looking to sell it, I’d prob jump on that 14. There are a fair amount if LJ’s around here if you’re willing to travel or ship it.

Well it sold. He called from his bank, I took the title over and they gave me a check for 14k.

Done deal.

I'm more set on an LJ than the Rubicon. Like I said, not in a big hurry so I have a lot of time to look and wait for the right one.

Are you looking for something stock? Mild mods? Manual? Auto?

Probably looking at an auto, mild mods. Maybe a small lift. Wheels.
My offroading is pretty much hunting. No difficult terrain.

There's a couple of LJs around here for around 12k. Mild mods. BUT-— restored title. Living next to Mexico we see a lot of those titles.

Would it be worth it to use the Savy kit and stretch it LJ length and upgrade to the capability or more than the Rubicon? Could you do it for less than $10K?

2004 for 14k is the Craigslist price where I live. If you don't love it I'd sell it. For 14k you can get one that may be more to your liking

Hurry. The weather will soon get cooler. We need more peeps to run with this winter.

Dang, I should have held on to my TJ a bit longer. I bought it for 10k in 2017, sold it for 10k in early 2021, and bought my LJ for 14k in late 2020.

Check Kijiji BC. There are a couple of LJs on there and in Canadian dollars (about 77 cents on US greenback).
