Parking break problem

Had the Jeep out of the garage in the driveway. When I went to pull it back in the battery died so I couldn’t start it and the parking break wouldn’t hold it in place ( was in neutral facing forward, it began to roll backward slowly. Putting in 1st seemed to help but it still felt unstable on a relatively minor incline. Tips?

I can't remember exactly what it looks like but I was able to adjust the cable under mine to get it to work a little better. It still doesn't work great unless you really wrench on it though. Might also make sure your rear brakes are adjusted tight enough too. (This all assumes you have drum rear brakes)

X2 to adjust the parking brake cable. I had the same issue. There's a nut under there you tighten to get it to take excess slack out of the cable. Ideally you want to jack up the rear, put the transfer case in neutral, and adjust it until you feel resistance spinning the wheels starting at the 3rd or 4th click of the parking brake.

If you ever need to park somewhere really steep, put the transfer case in 4Low (2Low also works if you have it). This gives the engine 2.72 (or 4 if you have a Rubicon) times the holding capacity. Use the gear with the lowest ratio, which in most cars is 1st (sometimes it's reverse).
