I was wondering if those things worked or not. I just might get one so I don't have to keep renting a snake.

You need to be careful when you use a cable machine when to cable into septic tank. If the tank is 20' away measure out 20' and mark your cable then add the distance for the riser's. You don't want to go too far if you get too much cable into the tank and it will get tangled on its self and then you climbing into the tank to untangle the snake to get it back out.

I don't know if I made it all the way to the septic tank but it seems to be fixed now.

Do you have a way to get under the home?

Yes I have a crawl space under the house. I don't know if I can get under there anymore. Also everything is covered in insulation and black plastic so I couldn't see the pipes unless I cut that stuff away and I don't think I want to do this unless I really need to.

@WestCoastDan makes a valid point it is possible you have a leak under the home spraying up, we are assuming the piping is under the home and not in the attic.

Do you know if the home is piped in copper or PEX ?

I honestly do not know but I'm 90% sure it's not copper but I'm also pretty sure it isn't PEX. I think it's PVC or at least that is what is in the walls for the plumping.

Is the wet spot cold or warm?

I know you said there is no plumbing in the area, is there a vent or any other roof penetration near this area.

The spot is cold. Also I'm now thinking someone spilled something there. Of course I'm being told that NO I didn't spill anything but after laying 3 different towels on the spot it's finally getting dry.

Yea we don't deal a lot with Septic Tanks here in the city but home it mountains has a Septic, and we pump about every 7 years or so.

I'm not going to dig the lid out in the snow unless it's absolutely a necessity. The last time I had my septic tank pumped was in the winter and I had to dig up the lid thru the snow and mud. But once spring gets here and it's dried up some I'll dig it up and get it pumped out. And then I'll start having it pumped every 4 years at the max.

Yes crawling under there and then cutting the stuff away is WAY better than jackhammering the floor.

I'm going to give it another day and see if it dries up. If not then I'm going to have to dig the access panel out of the snow and crawl under the house.

What is with what looks like mold ?

The cheap ass valve for the bathtub in my daughters bathroom had been leaking for god knows how long. When I first noticed the floor being wet I thought it was from her splashing water onto the floor. She was like 7-8 years old at the time. So when I finally figured out it had been leaking I had to cut away a huge chunk of sheet rock. And of course insurance only covered PART of it because it had been a long time leak.

The plumber who came in to fix this said it was a POS valve and had to change a bunch of the pipe because it was a oddball size.

My parents are on septic and didn’t get it pumped for ~25years… most of those years had 4 of us in the house. Whe my dad decided to get it pumped due to a bathroom remodel (just as a precaution/ new shower was walk in with low lip so he didn’t want the potential of poo flowing up) the septic guys said it was just fine and there wasn’t hardly anything to pump. That being said my dad has always dumped that power stuff down a toilet that helps the bacteria in you septic tank yearly.

Yep - Roebic or similar. It makes all the difference in the world. Diverting grey water helps a ton too.

Yep! Thats it! Probably also helps that my parents live on a pretty big hill so grey water probably has no chance to be an issue. Either way I suggest using that stuff at least yearly, if not 2 times a year. Thankfully I’m on sewage though… one of the few benefits being in a my suburban area. One day I’ll have my country home…
