I need some help, I’m really scratching my head over this one. Today we went for a light trail ride. I was excited to air down my new tires after recently picking up some beadlocks.

I normally ran 16” Moabs with 315s (E-rated) at 10psi. Now I have 35x12.50r15 (C-rated) that I aired down to 8 psi.

The ride felt terrible. I could feel everything. Felt as if I was riding a log! This is a trail that we run typically and the pace we were at today was nearly half of what it normally is. The only thing that has changed from the last ride is:

1.) wheels/tires
2.) I adjusted pinion some to alleviate vibes I had at hwy speed

I thought maybe I had a shock go bad so I checked and there wasn’t any leaky fluid or damage to the body. The ride to the trail and back felt fine. I’m so lost what could have caused the ride to differ so much. Any ideas?

I know in my mind that the C rating should ride smoother than an E rated tire.
Are you running the same tire on the new wheels because they don't seem to look all that soft for only being at 8 psi?

Do you still have the old wheels/tires? You could switch back to negate that as the problem.

You could air down lower with beadlocks, try 4-5psi.

Yes both tire sizes are STT Pro.

Or maybe try a little higher psi. Might be getting too much flex in the sidewall letting the Jeep move excessively.
Or the sidewalls haven't loosened up yet. There is a bit of "break in" required for best flex.
These are guesses.

I’m afraid that’s what I’m going to have to do. I honestly cannot see how the wheel and tire with less pressure and softer rating make the ride worse. I did not want to go that low due to pace. If it was only rock gardens I’d be okay with it would be okay with it.

I’ve heard tires break in but I wasn’t sure it was this bad. I had my fiancé drive the Jeep to see if maybe the tires were too low and the tires were forming to the rocks so much they hit the wheel (does that make sense?). That wasn’t the issue and it was mostly with smaller Rocks scatters along the smooth trail to and from obstacles.

The pictures don't look at all like 8psi. I might run them near empty a bit to break down the sidewall.
The gauge said 8. This is all I have to base it off of. Maybe they need to break in? They have maybe 100miles on them and this is the first trail ride. I can tell they did grip better than the others. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Same gauge as was used on the old tires?

I agree with above, take them down to 5-6 and run them a few times to break them in
Thanks I will do that and take it a little slower on the fast parts. I really wanna get this resolved. I was so frustrated trying to figure this out yesterday.
