Hi all,
I have a 2001 TJ, 4.0 with 32RH auto trans. Having a problem where, when cold, it seems like the torque converter is trying to lock up when stopped and in gear. I'm only guessing it's TC related, I'm out of other ideas so any thoughts or clues are welcome.
What will happen is the normal idle RPM (500-600 IIRC), when in drive and foot on the brake, will drop really low and then come back to normal RPM. Sometimes the jeep will lurch forward, not always. Sometimes the engine dies all together and then it fires right up. Now the kicker is this - this only happens when the jeep is cold - once it comes to operating temps, or even just slightly higher than 'cold' temp, the whole problem goes away. Shifts great, goes through all the gears fine, no slipping at highway speed that I can tell.
Fluid level checked at operating temp in N - shows that it has the correct fluid level.
Fluid itself and filter has been changed fairly recently - doesn't seem to be discolored or smell burnt.
IAC has been changed.
Throttle body is clean as a whistle - must have been just changed or thoroughly cleaned.
Clean air filter - just changed.
Any ideas?
