Recommendations on MT tire

Looking for some recommendations on some MT tires, I have STT Pros 33x12.50 15 right now but the tire shop can't get rid of the shimmy in the wheel. I know it's the tires because it wasn't there with the old KM2's. The KM2 was a good tire but not real good in the rain and snow. I'm looking for something that rides halfway decent, and normally have been known to balance out well. I have been looking at the Wrangler MTR but I have seen some comments they were very difficult to balance. I have heard Nitto makes a pretty round tire.

Any recommendations?

I have always been a fan of the BFGoodrich MT, I have never been a fan of the BF ATs (sorry my opinion) That said, I am a couple weeks away from buying your same size in Goodyear Duratrac's

Duratracs, all the way! I've got 33's and they roll smooth and straight down the road. A great looking, functional tire that can go from daily driving to offroad terrain. Let me not forget, lighter than most, if not all, MT's.

for a mud tire, I like either the BFG's KM2's,and that's what I have on the TJ, or the Mickey Thompson MTZ's that I have on my YJ

for an all season, I like the Firestone Destination's and run those on my GMC Sierra and my Chevy Trailblazer DD

sorry, but I was never much of a Goodyear fan...always found them appropriately named, and only good for about one year

I ran a set of Mickey Thompson Deegen 38's on another truck and it was like riding on eggs. That turned me off on the M/T line. The BFG KM2 was a great tire on the trail, I had 1 out of the 5 I could never balance right, it had a good hop to it. I just always left it as the spare at this point.

After all the time and money I put into this thing getting rid of the driveshaft vibration I'm a little gun shy on tires being they are the last part of this build! Lol.

How do they run size wise? I have heard they run slightly short? Never actually known anyone that had them just what I have read.

I have the same tires (but 16") and have had no issues with balancing. Have you tried going to another shop?

I travel a lot with work so I have very limited time. I haven't given up 100% on these STT's. I am going back to them Thursday when I get back in town. One of the tires took .25 Oz of weight and that one spins almost perfectly true. The other three have a lot of weight and visibly have a lot of wobble side to side and up and down. I have a 300ft concrete driveway and just rolling slow down the driveway it's like riding in a boat!

If they can get me 3 more tires like the one with hardly any weight I would be thrilled. I really think these STT's have some potential to be a good tire if they were round.

I run the Firestone Destination M/T in 315/70/17. The have been great and not a lot of road noise.

I've heard good things about he Toyo's. Sorry no practical experience with them. Nitto is a good tire too. I won't buy another set of KM2's, although, I must say, they balance well with little weight.

I'm kinda with you there in the BFG's. been there done that, want to try something different.

I used to have the Cooper STT tires and absolutely loved them! Never had an issue with them at all.

Your shimmy is almost certainly the result of improperly balanced tires, which is a common thing around here with large tires! I would bet on that.

Last Jeep night my club fellas and I were talking about the same subject. Many of them ran 35x 12.5 and 37x12.5 , the consensus was
Cooper SST
BFG KM2
GY MTR
Others ran the Mastercraft MT.
I'm a BFG guy and currently looking for a set of tires 35" so was pretty interested on the subject, one thing seem to be common is the large amount of weight took to balance.
Some fellas use the Duratracs. I saw few jeeps with it off road an seem to handle well.
Mostly saw Nitto's on the JK.
You may need to hunt a shop that perform balance on this type of tires as may be the tires is not your issue. Most MT tires balance using high amount of weight, nature of the design as is intended use.

Yes I'm pretty positive it's a tire issue. I actually think these have potential if I can get them to order me another set and hopefully get three more round ones out of the bunch.

That's pretty much the order I have heard people using too. I have heard a lot of guys running the STT and absolutely love them. If the set I have would balance out I think I would too. You can run them at 80 and they are incredibly quiet, they have a shimmy but I guarantee thats a balancing issue.
