Replacing stock subwoofer and amp

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums here. I got my jeep 2 years ago and now I'm getting around to fixing her up a bit.
Sorry if some of these questions have already been answered before but I'm just having a hard time piecing it all together.
I want to upgrade the factory sub to a Kicker CompRT 6.75 inch and install a new amp somewhere in the dash. I don't know very much about audio wiring and was wondering if anyone could explain how to wire the subwoofer and amp up. I've already replaced the stock head unit with a JVC KD-X270BT head unit.

I like the way he did his but I'm confused about a few things.

First, I noticed there are different Kicker CompRT 6.75 inch subwoofers and I don't know which one to get and what amp to get with it. Should I go with the 1 ohm or 2 ohm sub?
Second, once I unplug the factory amp from the wiring harness will the speakers up top still work? What do I do with the unplugged harness?
Third, what wiring kit would I need?

I appreciate any tips y'all can give me!

I haven't really messed with car audio since the 90's other than installing head units, but I'll bump this thread back up. If you can't get any good info on here I'd give Crutchfield a call. Their tech guys are really sharp & can walk you through the right combo of specifications, harnesses, etc..

Your JVC hu has dedicated pre-outs for a subwoofer. So you are going to need a pair of RCA cables to go from the hu to the amp.
a power, a ground and your speaker wire from the amp to the sub.

Welcome aboard. Think of a plan and budget before buying items, but if you are only looking to upgrade your subwoofer, that Kicker is the best option. It comes in two models, a 1 ohm or 2 ohm variant, and that choice is solely dependent on what amplifier you pair it with.

What are you looking to change?

1) Head Unit - Already upgraded - check
2) Amplifier - 1 channel, 4 channel, 5 channel?
3) Subwoofer; kicker - great choice - 1 ohm or2 ohm will depend on amplifier selection, if any?
4) Front Speakers - any changes?
5) Rear Speakers - any changes?

Thank you all for the help. I went back through all of Ranger Rick's original thread, watched several videos on youtube, and called the guys at crutchfield. I managed to replace my entire sound system and it's amazing how much better it sounds. For anyone who wants to know what I did, I went with a Kicker CompRT Single 6.75" 1 ohm sub with a Kenwood KAC-M3001 amp. I used a 10 guage amp wiring kit and 14 guage speaker wire. I wired the dual voice coil subwoofer in parallel to produce a 2ohm load. That subwoofer can handle a continuous load of 150 watts rms so I still need to adjust the gain on the amplifier to only output that amount so I don't blow the subwoofer. I replaced the soundbar speakers and dash pods with 5.25" kicker speakers.

What did you power the dash speakers and sound bar speakers with? I'm in the process of doing this upgrade as well. I have the 2 ohm kicker sub and a Kenwood deck on backorder. But I'm undecided about using deck power for the dash and sound bar or if I need an amp up there as well.
