This week I'd like to get my fender flares and mirror mounts looking good again. Anyone ever restored the mirror mounts before?

I tried wire brushing all of that powder off mine and repainting. It came back through again.

Second time, I masked the mirror section off and sand blasted them. They were then painted with an etching primer with black top coat. That was over 15 years ago, and they've been fine since. I think getting rid of the powdery stuff completely is the key.

It is best to just replace the mirror. The mirror and mount, all the way down to the door costs about $60 per side. If the cheap way is preferred, you can strip the metal with paint stripper, treat and spray paint it. I just went with OEM after market replacements on both sides. That's the fastest, less hassle way.

I'm leaning this way. Mine have the caulky build-up and I was going to try to re-paint, but I think getting a decent set of aftermarket will avoid them being an issue in the mid-future. I don't have access to sandblast.

I was going to try to get the rust off the mirror mover brackets - but went aftermarket because there is too many tight spots I'd never get the rust from, and the existing rust would have left a crappy surface once removed.
