Wow you made the right choice, but I have to be honest it sounds like you did not do your homework on this trail. Driving from So. Tahoe to the trail head is a 2 hour drive. Then doing the Rubicon in one day would be a very very long but doable day if you were running front & rear lockers, 35's, started at 6:00 am, had no breakdowns, no time spent winching, not waiting for other jeepers coming the other direction, or getting stuck in front of you, you might get through by dark.

Also leaving 3 school age kids in a hotel room alone while you went out jeeping are you F'ing kidding me that's soooooooooooo irresponsible. Anything could happen out there or on any trail, let me guess you also did not have a satellite phone or an InReach to contact your children if anything were to happen. . It's so easy to get stuck on the Rubi for hours and hours and possibly over night, and when doing this trail by yourself even worse

I don’t need a lecture from you or anyone on raising kids. I have six children and they are all well adjusted, intelligent kids and I have not endangered any of them or caused injury to a single one. One of the children left at the hotel is a certified babysitter with CPR training and we had 3 service animals there protecting them. So, before you pop off with some judgmental bullshit, know what you’re talking about.

As far as me doing my homework on the Rubicon, the Internet is full of misinformation. Half the folks giving out helpful info have never even been there. Apparently, that is who I was listening to when I determined I could do it in one day.

I have been running all makes of 4x4 vehicles for over 30 years, and so far, I have found that for the most part everyone out west is over-exaggerating the difficulty of these trails. I can now see that the Rubicon has some challenging obstacles and I will be fully prepared when I return. But, I am 100% confident that I could have made it on 31s.

@Plumber1 is a good dude. His intention was good. I ran the Rubicon with a group from here 3 days in late September last year. I was on 32’s and a 2 inch bb. I added a oil pan skid , a winch from MrBills. It snowed on the first day. I winched out of little sluice 3/4ths of the way up, #3 in a line of 6 I think. Everyone agreed it was a good spot to get out. Plenty more adventures the next 2 days.
I’d just say go with a group who know what your bringing. Don’t take the same lines as the guys with 35’s and 37’s

You 100% can make it through on 31s. I would allow yourself 3 days for your first trip through and bring some spares, including a bag of miscellaneous nuts and bolts, silicone, some fluids, etc. Enjoy!

I will be ready next time and allow several days. I am never in a hurry. I was just misinformed. I will take responsibility for my oversight but will be well-prepared next year.

So I guess you did have a satellite phone to keep in touch. I didn't say you couldn't do the Rubi on 31's oh you sure can just not in one day or less
