Seat base nuts

I have an oem seat base, but don’t have the nuts that connect the seat cushion to the base. There are 4 studs on the base and I’ve tried a few nuts from the hardware store but they all seem to stop 1/4 of the way through. Is it a tapered stud? Anybody have recommendations?

I removed mine and put in a new bolt and washer, the new bolt head is a slim head to it to make sure there would be no interference

How did you get them off? These look like they’re welded in

You can drill them out or grind/cut the bolt heads and push them out

Found a random nut in the tub and tried it on the base. By luck it was the right one. Went to ace hardware and was able to buy 8Mx1.25 coarse.
