Hey everyone. This is my first thread on here so I apologize if I ramble on. So I am looking at a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 163000 miles on it. Its at a Jeep Dealership and they are asking 12,499.00.And originally when they first put it on the lot they were listing it at 16,995.
Now in my opinion that' is asking quite a lot for this jeep. Now after doing my research on the year and edition and mileage, Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds is stating that the fair market price is between 6300 and 7650. Now the reason I believe they want to much is because the 5000 dollars worth of upgrades that were installed by the previous owner. Now keep in mind the dealer received the Jeep in this condition. So the reason I wanted to get on here was because I am going to drive 3 hrs to look and test drive this vehicle this weekend and wanted to get an opinion on what is a fair offer for this jeep. I do not and will not pay the 12500 they want so in everyone's opinion what is a deal you believe is fair. I am thinking of offering 9500 out the door. Of course they are going to get their fees such as Dealer fees and etc..

long arm, smittybilt tube fenders and bumpers, 8 owners, one accident, 168k miles. There are better jeeps out there.
Personally, I don’t like the fenders but that’s just me. But Chris and Tworley seem to know their Tj stuff. I looked at and drove several before I found the one that I bought. Keep looking, ‘the game’s afoot!’.

I can't get this eyesore out of my head. That thing looks like someone rolled it through an Extreme Terrain (or Quadratec) catalog and didn't know when enough was enough.

my only advice is that for that money (or close) you can start with a later model and either one that has no to very light mods or mods that have been done by someone you know is legit.

OP--it may look cool with the lift, big tires and rims, lightbars and nice detail. Plus it could be appealing that everything you want in a jeep looks to already be done here. But what you will find on this site is function over fashion. Start with something that has either been built right, or is stock that you can build and learn from. TJ prices have dropped considerably since the JL came out. You can find something cheaper and cleaner and you will be far better off in the long run.
Expect to spend 5K sorting that thing out, add that to what they will take for it. Does it still fit your budget?
On the subject of looking terrible. I saw one of those angry bird grills on a Jeep today and it looks like shit.
