Should I remove the harmonic balancer on my transfer case?

So I replaced my transfer case a while ago after I blew up the first one and the new one came with a harmonic balancer whereas the old tcase did not have one.

At the time I didn't really notice there was a difference but after reading this thread

I was wondering if I should go through the trouble of pulling it off. I am trying to track down a vibration (going to do rear driver shaft U-joints soon as they haven't been changed in almost 20 years to see if that helps) and while I have the driveshaft removed take a crack at pulling it off.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't remove it, it's there for a reason after all.

The only times I've seen it removed are when certain super short SYEs called for it. @psrivats continues to chase down an elusive vibration for almost a year now. I think he came to the conclusion after much research it actually had nothing to do with the harmonic balancer after all.

It has to be removed when installing a SYE. The new shorter shaft has no provisions for the balancer. I have read some cases where folks who installed a SYE and had to remove the balancer had vibes after installation, so if you don't have to remove it I'd leave it.

Ahh okay. My thinking was that the one I replaced didn't have one and the new one did. But I'll leave it on for now!
