Should we be concerned? (military activity)

Did you bother to read the thread?
I grew up the son of a career Navy man, 20 years active duty and 10 more inactive reserve, the first person I asked was my father, and he said he's never seen or heard of that many carrier strike groups actively patrolling off our coasts at the same time. Let alone being deployed at relatively all the se time.

The more pertinent question, since I already answered yours before you even asked it, is do you have any suck first hand knowledge of Naval operational tactics?

What year did your dad start his Navy career?

Well it's a nice thought... But I'm pretty sure we won't be tossing any nukes around.. Well, at least I hope not anyway...😱.

Remember we're not the only one with nukes..🤔

Mutually Assured Destruction ended the thought, and possibility, of major country land invasions.

Four deployments on four different nuclear powered aircraft carriers. Of those, two pre-9-11, two post 9-11, three East Coast Med/Persian Gulf deployments, one Western Pacific/Persian Gulf. I own a Carrier Air Wing Strike Leader Qual.

They are completing training so they can be home before Christmas. Happens every year.

Thank you for that answer, and thank you for your service.
Do you think the timing is just coincidental?

I've had a handful of family members & other non-military friends reach out to my asking if I thought it was weird... I work on jets in the USAF, like I know shit about boats except for the fact they're supposed to float. I told 'em it's probably just a big ass training exercise, like an "Elephant Walk" in the USAF where we gen up every damn jet on the flight line & completely exhaust the ammo complex of all their bombs for one big show of force. And photos! Military branches change up their training routines all the time - in part for operational security, in part for perception, and sometimes it just because a new General/Admiral got a new job & feels like he needs to shake things up.

The larger concern is the deep water ports off th coast of Djibouti. Look where the Chinese are compared to US camp L. Consider the infrastructure contracts using the deep water ports as collateral.

Consider a dime and it’s not always heads or tails.

While I generally think Trump is a doofus, I can’t find any takers on the following prop bet: will more Americans die of corona during the Trump administration or will more Africans die during the Biden administratio in collateral damage as a result of US conflict. No one in my circle will take fewer Africans.

I hope they don’t overload Guam to the point it capsizes.

I still can't believe that dude wasn't fucking with that admiral. There's a small part in me that holds humanity to a certain regard which precludes a publicly elected official from saying anything so stupid. Maybe I'm naive.

Can you imagine being a 20+ year career Naval Officer having to answer that question?

I'm completely amazed how he held his composure... I wouldn't have been able to refrain from laughing like a hyena the first time he eluded to the island capsizing...

He handled the question well.

I would have preferred an R Lee Ermy response though.

If Guam was ever going to capsize it would have been in August 2007 when I was there for two days waiting for the carrier to catch up. We had escorted two F/A-18 hornets who collided mid-air and could no longer land on the carrier. USS JOHN C STENNIS was participating in Valiant Shield, one of the largest military exercises ever. There were multiple fixed wing aircraft of EVERY type the US Military operated in all branches. Pretty impressive.
