Short version of a long story, I've had a 1969 Camaro stored in the garage for almost 20 years. A few weeks ago I finally drug it, literally, out of the garage. The car has a 400ci small block, which had not been started the entire time it was stored. Since I no longer have keys for it, I bypassed the ignition, by taking power directly to the HEI. I also wired in a temporary momentary switch for engaging the starter.
After addressing a clogged accelerator pump passage on the Holley, installing a new battery, plugs and wires, along with a failed HEI, I hit the starter button and the engine fired to life for the first time in nearly 20 years. The car is running a little rough, which isn't surprising since it's running off the gas that's been in the tank the entire time, but it now moves on its own power.
It has been decades since I've been inside a SBC and I know for sure the valve stem seals need replacing. From what I remember, it was common practice to install umbrella style seals on the exhaust valves and O-ring style on the intake valves (I think I have that correct?). I'll have to confirm, but I also remember installing a set of double hump heads a long time ago. This brings me to my question, for any SBC experts. Are the valve stems on these 11/32"? I'm getting ready to order a set of seals and want to make sure I get the correct parts.
