So is the problem the fuel pump?

Ok, it’s hot in Florida. I ran my 2005 Unlimited particularly low (gas). I filled it full at the gas station. As soon as I pulled out, my front end started vibrating with acceleration. It’s fine maintaining speed, but shakes when given gas. So would this be the fuel pump going bad? Would I most likely need to just replace the pump or everything related with the pump; regulator, ect., ect.? Finally, the tank is filled. I realize it’s probably not a good idea to drive with it, but could I cause a lot more damage driving it around, using up some of the gas? I plan to tackle this repair myself and wouldn’t mind the tank being closer to empty when I drop it. I don’t have any place to siphon 18 gallons of fuel to. Thanks ahead of time.

I siphoned all of my gas when I did my pump. Was this a decent place to get gas or a "I need to get back in the car while I'm pumping" kinda place? Garbage stations sometimes have pretty shitty storage tanks that get water in them.

I got gas in my Jeep at around 8 one night, when I got off at work at 9:30 AM the next day, it kept dying over and over. It took me 2 minutes to get home from the gas station, and 5 minutes to get to work the next day. So I only had drove 7 minutes until the problems came in, which is why I think I had some water in the tank. I replaced the fuel pump but I still feel like there was water in the gas. I siphoned it all out, ended up putting it back in, and ran some water remover in it. Then I was fine.

A LOT of things can cause stuttering with throttle, whether coincidental/unrelated or not after getting gas.

It could be either air remaining in the system which needs to burp out or you sucked up some of the sludge from the bottom of the tank...

Is that even possible?
I've run mine very, very, low multiple times without issue.

Pour isopropyl alcohol in it - we have had a lot of rain and bad tanks take it in.

  • Absorbs 5 times more water than regular gas-line antifreeze.
  • Cleans fuel injectors and carburetors.
  • Designed for year-round use in all 2-cycle and 4-cycle gas & diesel engines.
  • Removes water from the fuel system and prevents rust and corrosion.

Thank you all for your replies. I crossed all the fingers I could with the iso-heat, which left me 5 crosses but no avail. In this case, I assumed, which made an ass out of…. Well just me. I took it in for an inspection and it’s the front drive shaft slip yoke. It got a chipped off piece. Not good. But thankfully I don’t have to drop a fuel tank or skid plate. Here’s my new question. The websites for my aftermarket part say the part is compatible with TJ’s and 2001-2004 GJ Cherokkees. I have a you-pulll yard near me that has 5 Cherokees that I inspected and look good. But they have a different part number than what is on my LJ. SO MY QUESTION IS, if the aftermarket part works for my wrangler and listed GCs, will the pulled part from the GC work on my LJ. Other wildcard is 2 part sites said that aftermarket part fits the LJ, and one said it fit the TJ but not the LJ. Should the driveshaft parts for a TJ also fit an LJ, I know the LJ is longer?

Do yourself a favor and either call Adam's Driveshaft or Tim Woods and get yourself something decent.

You're half into the cost of a new DS just replacing all the u joints on a used one. Unless your using cheap parts...and then your really rolling the dice. Remember that front shaft is between your legs.
