Hi, all.

I know the Sony Double Dins are actually a single Din receiver with a double dine screen.

Does anyone know if the Sony Double Dins fit into the 2002 and earlier TJs without cutting the inner/sub dash?

Thank you!

Michael

I am not sure if that is accurate. I went ahead and changed the years to 2003 and Crutchfield says the same thing -
  • You'll have to modify your vehicle's sub-dash to install a new car stereo.

Others have said no modification is required. Was the subdash different on 2003+?

I just want to make sure what I am seeing online tracks with 2002 and below.

So, I reached out to a tech at Crutchfield and this is what they said

This is the cutting they normally recommend to make room. Since the Sony chassis is on the top, though, there is a good possibility that you are right in not having to cut it.

Anybody with hands-on knowledge of a 2002 or earlier?

2001 here. Zero cutting on the Jeep. You have to trim the new DDIN replacement dash to fit the radio bc they range in size from 6.8-7 inch.

I had no dash and a POS DDIN Amazon special radio. Added a DDin dash from Amazon to clean it up with an additional random screw into the dash at the bottom to hold it (thanks to the forum for the tip). The dash is the same price on AMZ as CF so get it wherever. Just installed an Alpine iLX-670 from Crutchfield and trimmed a bit more with a Dremel to allow it to poke through a bit more. There's so much room back there with the slim Alpine...
