Well, it looks like has been well lubricated by a leaking axle seal at least, unless that is just a lot of fresh, glossy black paint? Hard to say anything by looking at those pictures, really. But a dying u-joint will often squeak in a pretty regular, higher pitched pattern as you are turning, where as a wheel bearing will tend to be a bit more a steady drone going down the road that will increase and decrease in volume as you rock the wheel back and forth, loading and unloading the bearing.
