I have a 97 TJ I bought from a guy, already had a bunch of stuff done to it (just hoping I didn’t buy someone else’s headache) I’m trying to see what needs to be fixed. I heard a squeaking from the rear of the Jeep a few weeks ago. I looked under neither and found the rear sway bar link didn’t have either bushing. So I got new bushings, replaced them, test drove and no more squeaking. Well yesterday I had the Jeep out and drove around for about 20 miles and got back home and the squeaking started again. Also squeaked when I rocked the Jeep back and forth (if that makes a difference). I moved it out of the driveway this morning and nothing also rocked it and nothing. I’m thinking breaks? U joint maybe?

He is right- and if the track bar is that far gone others likely are- plus you may be missing coil spring isolators-
Depending on how do you count there or well over 36 bushing under a TJ-
Look at your sway bar links as well. These will have bushings at the top and bottom plus one and on each side of the differential at rear axle.
You can spray WD-40 on target areas and if that quiet and sit down it tells you that you need to do some bushing replacement.
Did you put polyurethane bushings in the sway bar end links? If you did, that’s your squeak. Ask me how I know

My tailgate hinges squeak when driving over bumps, thought it was my hard top at first, but that is securely bolted down. That and seat frames rattling used to bother me when I first got the TJ, but I kinda tune it out now, if that's good 
Well I guess you didn’t read my whole post. I bought what I thought was a good Jeep now it’s turned into a project just trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. Thank for the help (that was sarcasm)!

I guess I would have to find out I just bought new links. So whatever came with them. So the weird thing is it doesn’t squeak when it’s cold.
Cold things are smaller.
Warm things get bigger.
Bigger things fit tighter.
Tighter things... especially poly bushings...squeak.
Poly is great for full time rock crawling and race cars. You typically can't hear the squeak anyways over the roar of the engine.

You should be applying grease to urethane bushings when installing, and you may need to reapply periodically depending on use, conditions and design of the connection. Properly lubed urethane bushings shouldn't squeak....unless maybe something else is amiss in the system.
