Starter failure : acted like dieing battery

I just had the strangest day.

Got in the jeep to go out for breakfast and it cranked real slow. First thought was the battery was going out. So on the way to breakfast i hot up orileys and had it tested. It checked out good.

So i continued on and had breakfast. After it was still having the slow cranking. When i got home i cleaned up all cables. Really didn't need any but i wanted to be safe.

So, i went to the grocery store and it started slow again. Hit up autozone and had them test the battery. Still tested good. So i continue on to the grocery store.

After picking up dinner and drinks. Loaded up the jeep and nothing. No crank, no clicking. After waiting for a couple minutes planning out how im going to get my food home it barely cranked enough to start. So i sped home and parked it in the garage. Back to no crank no clicking.

I have had starters go out many time but i have never had one do this. After putting in a new starter it starts like normal. I was second guessing myself all the way to and from the part store. Thinking there was no way it was the starter. It just goes to show you that anything is possible.

Anyone ever experience a starter fail this way?

So when they tested the battery did it undergo an actual load test? Bad batteries can show a full charge hooked up to a meter, but when placed under load will immediately drop below the starting threshold.

I had a starter do the same thing, it takes about 20 minutes to change. It left me abandoned on the Pilot Mountains near the Bonneville Salt Flats, I was lucky to find a side by side to pull me to a down hill slope that I could let the jeep roll down. Autos will not pull start. It was a long wait to get the wife to come get us. about 3 hours...
