Starter recommendation

My jeep needs a new starter and I am looking for some recommendations. I try to stay away from the auto parts stores. What brands have you had good luck with? Bosch, MOPAR, etc?

I have a 2006 4.0 with the 6 speed.

I like my Mean Green starters; have one in each Jeep. Not saying it isn't overkill and not saying that OEM won't work fine for 95% of Jeep owners. But, wouldn't hesitate to buy again if I picked up another Jeep.

Your right about staying away from Autozone and the like most of those have been sent back and rebuilt so many times there crap. I usually go to local alternator / starter rebuilder. Hometown builder usually better

I went the Auto Zone route for $80 almost two years ago. So far so good. I definitely understand steering away from their parts though. I have a second faulty oil sending unit. I am going to get an OEM one next and see if that one can make it past the six month mark.

If you can find one. Alternator and starter rebuilders are getting kinda rare these days.

If the one you have is the original, have you thought of fixing it yourself? You didn't say what your starter was doing, but whatever it is, it is probably easily repairable or the parts stores wouldn't want your core. There may be a rebuild kit, or in my case, all the starter needed was to be taken apart, cleaned, and put back together. I did this with a few cans of carb cleaner and without replacing a single part about 3 or so years ago and it has been working flawlessly since then.
