Switch Panel Install..Help

Purchased a custom switch panel off ebay that looks like this.

I’ve cut out the ashtray insert with a dremel, & the switch panel is almost exactly the length & width now of that hole. Having trouble finding room to mount with switches being up against the trim & air ducts behind that. If I come out vertically flush with the trim bezel it gets in the way of the shifter handle (automatic). I have seen some other posts on here of jeeps with similar panels & switches. What modifications have you done to make them fit??

Can you use a different style switch? Some take up a huge footprint in back. Or is there any bracketing behind that can be removed for more clearance? Or perhaps angle the faceplate out so it adds room behind, but is slanted to clear the shifter?
Or get a manual trans and never worry about it again!
