Hello new to this forum. Sorry if someone already asked this question. Ok so I just bought a 2000 2.5 with a manual transmission. I over paid for and am now regretting it so it has allot wrong with it but first thing first. It idles fine but when I go to drive it not even a mile from my house when I let off the gas it dies. Then its really hard to get started again. But as long I keep my foot in the gas it will run. But for whatever reason as soon as get it my in garage it back to idling fine. Ok so I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and gave it a new oil change and took the throttle body apart and cleaned it and put a new gasket. I really don’t have money to replace everything. So anything will help. (Problems are it has headers and a hole in the muffler and there is a knock on the engine and it has been sitting awhile) thanks

More than likely all you need to do is just clean the IAC and throttle body with some carb cleaner. That should fix it.

However, given that you have a hole in the headers and muffler (is it both?), that will potentially create idle issues as well.

No just the muffler. The person I bought it from this was there first car and they dogged it the engine was already redone and I’m afraid it’s going to need a new engine.

So I replaced the iac and fixed the idle problem. But now I took it further from my house and it will not go over 40 and when I shut it off it’s not wanting to start. Any suggestions I just really don’t want to throw money at at everything. Thanks I’m adva.
