So a few weeks ago I took my new to me TJ Rubicon to a local 4 wheel park. In 4 wheel drive I noticed a knocking noises on the back and forth surges. Nothing failed everything performed admirably. I was at my buddies house today trying to find the noise and it's in the transfer case. It sounds like when the jeep is bouncing back and fourth could be black in the chain. At first I almost thought it was a motor mount or transmission mount. Is this normal or do I need to order a rebuild kit for the t-case? If I need a rebuild kit which is best? No; dea where to start on this.

It's possible that nothing is wrong. If you haven't driven a Rubicon before with the 4:1 low range it takes a little getting use to. Keep the edge of your foot against the transmission hump to keep a steady throttle. An unsteady throttle will result in a banging back and forth in 4L.

I was bumping and letting off to create the clank. Ok I'll try that next trip and see. To duplicate id set the parking brake in 4 low and bump the throttle and clutch.
