Transfer case output shaft question

So a generous member here sent me his no longer needed factory output shaft since mine was bent. Installed it a week ago with what I thought was no issues. New seal, old was ruined on removal. A day later, output seal is leaking pretty bad. Figured I must have messed something up so I picked up a new to install today and found this.

Pic is with new seal, old one was burned through. When trying to install the new seal I noticed that when a pushed the seal on it took a lot of effort and when it did the inside seal was rolled over. It appears that the set up is a bit different on the "new" shaft. My TJ is a 2000 and according to the other members profile his is a 97. Checked both parts manuals and both have same part number for seal. Obviously this isnt going to work but what do I do or how do I fix this?

You can tell by the wear line were the seal sits and its different between the two along with the groove location and distance.

You guys are doing great with the replies. Update from over here, I used a thin piece of plastic to get it past the grove, actually worked quite well. I think it'll be fine for now= till I do a sye.

Still would like to know what's going on though if someone knows. Just a year difference thing or what. Goodnight boys.

My recommendation is to fire two blasts outside the jeep and that should fix it. Buy a shotgun.

I'm so glad you got the shaft, now you know how the whole country feels!
Maybe you should consult your Vice the Hoe, she knows a thing or two about being on the receiving end of a shaft?
I promise if I ever see you broken down on the side of the road, I'll honk as I drive past.

Yeah that didnt last long, 20 minutes of driving and the seal is toast. Sye is moving up the list rather quickly.

Your shaft is crooked. Maybe try not sniffing young girls for a while and see if that helps.
