Soak or shower the fabric upper in the hottest water you can find:
Place the fabric upper window or the fabric upper window and frame (if trying to uninstall) in the bathtub. Run the hottest water you can in the tub using the shower. Let the fabric sit for about 10-15 minutes. If you're trying to install new upper fabric let it just soak in the tub. The frame you'll have to use the shower - unless you have a real big tub it won't fit.
Use the rounded end of a crescent wrench or similar to either install or uninstall the fabric on or off the frame. If installing start with the hardest corners first. If uninstalling start with the easiest corners first. Be careful not to pull to hard on the fabric or it can rip or separate. If it gets cold before you have it installed or uninstalled. Put it back in the hot water and reheat. You can do this as many times as you need.
I tried everything to install new upper window fabric on my frames. Including the sun, a heater and a heat gun. Nothing worked. The hot water makes the fabric especially pliable and it will stretch onto or off the frame. You might get just the sun to work. But it has to be a very hot day. And the fabric fits very very tight onto the frame.
I've mentioned this in threads before. But thought it deserved it's own thread.
PS - OEM upper fabric does not have velcro and must be cut off to remove. But hopefully your oem fabric is messed up or you wouldn't be putting new fabric uppers on. All aftermarket upper window fabric comes with velcro. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to get it on.
