Two issues

Hey all, new to the forum but been driving my jeep for about 3 years now. Recently I've been having two issues that's been troubling me for the past month. I've done my due diligence with research and other peoples issues that kind of match my own. One of the issues is when I cold start the TJ, it starts up fine with no issues. But when I start to tap the gas it wants to die/bog down. It will eventually clear up after some presses of the gas pedal and once warmed up its gone until its fully cooled down. Once off work I go through the same process again. I've changed out the TPS, IAC, MAP, and Crankcase sensors. I've also did a spark plug and wire change. Last year i changed out the gas pump in the tank and changed out the distributor cap and rotor along with the disk sensor due to some other issues I was having my first and second year with the jeep. My second issue is once driving the jeep the rpm bounces and it feels like its going back and forth from one gear to another. I've noticed during this issue that I have a small trans leak dripping from the skid plate so when I have the time I need to drop the plate and see which seal or sensor its coming from ( right now I have the jeep parked due to having a backup vehicle) and I have already changed the transmission gasket and filter when i noticed the leak to eliminate that being it ( it needed one anyways due to me buying the jeep at 220k+ miles and having it already at 258k+) I was hoping changing the sensors would fix my issue but at last it has not. I have on the way injectors (also ordered the sleeves and rail sleeve to keep it from heat soaking) the elbow for the map sensor (noticed it was a bit soft and old so waiting this week for it) and have a intake/exhaust gasket for a possible leak its had since I bought it (has been loud since day 1 of purchasing it). Thanks in advance for looking at this post. I'm just shooting at random parts at this point and need the assistance. If video is needed I will later provide a video of issues on my days off coming up (Tuesday and Wednesday).

In my experience, if you have a leak from the skid you actually have had a leak for a long time and it is pooled up in the skid and finally pooled up enough fluid to actually start dripping from the skid. And virtually every leak presents itself as a pan gasket leak because pretty much anything other than a pump seal leak will run to the lowest point, which is the pan. The best thing to do is to get a mess of paper towels and wipe everything down super dry. Then stuff paper towels in & around everything that screws into the trans. Particularly the NSS, cooler lines, shift selector. Blind guess? It's your shift selector shaft seal. But there's no need to guess, tracking it down isn't that hard.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

I second the selector shaft seal. Take a look at the tail housing gasket also. Both these item will leak and run along the pan appearing to be a pan gasket leak.

Personally? I’d change your thread title and make it more descriptive, and separate these into 2 threads. You’ll get specific feedback a little easier I found.

I agree, once a leak is through the pan, it’s probably a touch old, so I’d be checking my levels first. Then clean and see if you can find the source.

Thanks for the responses. I have the next two days off and plan to drop the skid plate and track down the leak. I'll clean the surfaces and wrap some paper towels around each item to see where its coming from. I have a idea its the selector shaft seal as you all have mentioned (there was a lot of trans fluid near that area last time checked). I'll keep you all posted! :)

However much fluid you think could leak from that silly little seal, you have underestimated it tenfold.
