18 months ago we sold our 05 DMax and Host Camper that served us well for 6 years and decided it was time to change the game up a bit. We initially thought of building an Overland XJ but a TJ came up locally so we jumped on it. After taking care of the immediate problems, leaking diffs, brakes, ignition

2002 TJ 4.0L Sahara Dana 30/35 w/lsd and an unknown 3.5/3” lift. Speakers upgraded with head unit and a gutted factory sub box in console and the remnants of an aftermarket amp. Hardtop and soft top

The idea of this build is to build a Jeep that’s capable of exploring trails, with the ability to get out of a jam if need be. Not to push limits every time out, we plan to travel this rig. With the limited space on a TJ and wanting the ability to leave camp we decided we will build a trailer capable of what we want/need. Overland trailers brand new built are way way out of our budget. so we plan to purchase a utility trailer as a platform

We found a trailer load ally that came with a utility rack, sweet! We also sourced a RTT locally for cheap so we can decide on what path to take for a tent without a major investment/mistake.

We decided after the first camping trip that we loved the RTT but we needed something that was a bit bigger for sleeping quarters and more designed around a trailer. After looking at every tent made we decided on the CVT Mt Mazama tent. Called down to Oregon get a shipping quote, $1600 shipping alone. Let’s make a trip!! Had to beef up the trailer first and get rid of those wheels. Picked up 2” spacers, 2” lift blocks and some stocker TJ rims used. Took the spare tire carrier off the Jeep and mounted it on the trailer. We knew we would be replacing the bumper with one that has a carrier. Also utilized a cooler we had laying around, bolted it to the frame and used it for storage.

We burned over 1000 miles rounds trip. Went to Bend, hit up CVT and they really went above and beyond. I wish I got pics of the install but honestly it went on so fast it blew my mind. Headed west to Dune City and from there headed straight north to Port Angeles where we took the ferry back to our rock. In that trip we almost died over Mt Hood after a spring storm, should have waited a day before making that pass. Only got pulled over once by state trooper south of bend, bad trailer tail light. He directed me to the closest napa where I got what I needed and parking lot fixed the problem. Then in Florence I rear ended someone, lol. Oregon is amazing, anyone from there should be proud of your state, it’s beautiful and the people there make it a truly amazing experience. We will be back...

got new head lights installed, front bumper on ready for the winch which will be the next purchase for the rig. Upgraded the interior dash and HVAC LED. Traced down my EVAP leak and replaced a couple old brittle hoses and BOOM, CEL cleared. So nice not only having the LED illumination but that light is is off! First time in the 2.5 years of ownership. I’m just enjoying it while I can, lol. Did the valve cover gasket as is was puking. Cleaned the IAC, runs like a fresh little tractor again. Front end needs some love, I got an upper ball joint on its way out after taking a hit last fall. Hoping I can get through till winter when I do a front end re fresh and the scheduled auto locker

Big progress on the trailer during COVID. Got my sliding kitchen built, electrical done (120v shore, group 27, solar, USB plugs) 20lb propane in with attachment in kitchen. Tools mounted. Tailgate was swing away new, so I built some hangers from aircraft cable. Used some old laminate for some flooring. Once I get some finishing touches here soon I will have a more detailed walk around
