Wall Hangers

General question about wall hangers for interior walls (framed pictures, wall art, et al). I literally hate the options I know of more than mosquitoes and sticker patches. I’d rather walk on hot coals than work with them.

I’ve tried taps, screw-ins, sprung types, sticky types. What is the best you’ve found?

I use these to hang towel bars in my rentals. Have yet to have a tenant tear one out. Easy to put in with a driver drill just finish with a screw driver so you do not over tighten. I also drill a pilot hole to make sure it is in the proper location.

For big heavy stuff I use the 75lb EZ anchors from home depot which look similar to above. They work really well and I have yet to have anything move on me. We have a large 6-7' mirror that weights probably 50-60 lbs hanging from two of them. Also used them to hang a 2" floating shelf that holds quite a few potted plants.

For the smaller stuff; coat racks, towel racks, frames, etc.. I use the Hilman branded anchors rated to 45lbs. They come with the proper drill bit and appear to have a more substantial amount of material to them vs the more common anchors.

I too hate most Wall Anchors but I use the type shown. They seem to work fine but I have had them spin in the wall which is annoying. I just try to keep the shit my wife hangs on walls to a minimum.

@tworley. Haven't seen these. Thanks. They look good for the smaller stuff. I've used the EZ anchors. Don't need them often, but worked so far.

Ok, I've had them spin too. They are self tapping, but occasionally I've already messed up a smaller one, so when there's already a hole there is when I've had them spin on me.

I should know better, but I'm often in a hurry.

How heavy are the items you are looking to hang? For just framed pictures/art, look up gorilla hooks. That's mostly what I've used and I have to no complaints.

Mostly smaller things like pictures and wall art, but also some things in the garage. Those gorilla hooks look interesting. I’m going to get some of these and a couple others and keep them on hand for projects. I hope to move on past my hatred for wall hangers!

They are stupid easy to use even for a n00b like me and leave very little holes that are easy to patch. Don't exceed the weight rating and you will be good to go.

The screw-n-grip fasteners like @bucky noted work pretty well. For hanging pictures and the like I've used Walldog screws with hooks.

I dont recommend using those fat cheap plastic screw in “anchors”. They wobble and break the drywall hole bigger, as weight is pulled on and off. As well as break off the phillips screw in part

I would go with what tworley & JMT have posted much more secure options.

I use metal butterfly anchors for very heavy duty
Light duty I use spreading mollies that are just a plastic version. Something that GRABS and cinches onto the drywall

Like bucky, I've had good luck with these in rentals for towel bars. I've also used them for hanging window blinds. I've installed a hundred of these in the last 15-20 years if I've installed one. The only problem I've had was when a child hung from a towel bar and it pulled out. I'd rather repair a 1/2" hole in the drywall than a 2" hole from a more secure anchor that cracks the drywall.

+1 for monkey hooks. Ease of repair is the biggest bonus after the ease of install.
