Weird over heating issue?

Twice in the last year the wobbly jalopy over heated while waiting in a drive up? It runs fine about 99.8% of the time.

both times it was only 65° outside?

the only thing I can think of is the thermostat got stuck some how. And I have no idea how old the thermostat is. As soon as I get moving again the temps come right down and Tj runs like a top?

The the thing runs fine, its just the occasional over heat, oh ya, I never lose any fluids? there isn't even any seepage that I can see. So im going to replace the thermostat, and both radiator hoses........next week.

this is just this weeks head scratcher??????

My brain is kinda fried, I studied for my Technician and General class HAM license, Passed the Technical on Wednesday and passed the General on Friday. ..........yea

I just did my thermostat...took seven reinstalls. Chasing leaks on the housing and a bad from the store Napa stat.

Buy a FlowKooler Robert Shaw 330 195 degree stat, a new gasket, some right stuff RTV and a new thermostat housing.

Make sure you're using the constant tension clamps.

Overheating while at idle could be from the fan clutch going out and not moving enough air. Once the vehicle is moving air flows through the rad and cools off.

that makes sense. I was just up at the transfer station and at idle, I noticed the temp started to go up, I put the TJ in park and rev'd the engine to 1500RPM's and the engine cooled off. I figure the fan clutch is probably 24 yrs old, but it only has about 100K miles on it? LOL
