It allows you to connect and disconnect electrical power to a device.
But seriously, as others have pointed out, it's not an OEM switch, so you'll need to follow the wires connected to the switch and see where they go.
Did you buy the Jeep today? Otherwise, you've pushed it and know what happens. 
That is the rear laser switch. Only use it on jackass tail riders. May be illeagal in California and Michigan
If you have a soft top push it and see if the top folds down. Hell if you have a hard top it still might work.
If it's an ejection seat button, he's screwed either way. He should remove the top and have his wife ride with him before pushing it. The button is on the passenger side.
Hopefully it activates the automatic console cleaning device.

Now where's the fun in doing that ? I wouldn't touch it, it could be the self destruct switch that pulls the pin on the grenade !!!!
