Wheel spacers

I hope the state doesn't figure out that regardless of the number of lug nuts holding the tire to the unit bearing, it only has 3 bolts holding it into the steering knuckle and they are smaller than a lug stud in diameter.

I also hope they don't inspect 1 ton dually pick-ups with the same intent since all of them from the factory have a very large wheel spacer so they can use the same rim front and rear.

But you're talking an OEM component.
The NHTSA and (engineering agencies, ANSI, etc) are in place to make sure a component being used by a mfg is of a certain material strength and design etc.

Technically in this state Rubicon flares are illegal. State only allows flares of 3" or less. They pass as it's an OEM installed part approved safe by other agencies before it ever gets sold.

I can just tell you we get about 10-12 vehicles per year in here with spacers. Some are for insiection and others for some other repair. A good fraction of those are in poor installed condition. Missing/broken fastener, not torqued properly etc.

I can't tell you the last time a dually was in here with any of the above issues.

This is just observing real world situations. I've no vested interest in this either way other than what I've seen.
