Where do these HVAC pieces go?

Good day everyone! I am a new TJ owner as of last week. I bought a 97 that is in complete pieces and parts are all in boxes. I have mounted the heater/ac box back in and have mounted the dash and most of the wiring. I have found a couple pieces that I can’t quite figure out where they go. Here are a couple pictures, if anyone can help me out, that would be great. That is my wife holding the pieces, my hands and nails are not that clean.

They could slide onto the back of the ventilation registers.

Thanks, I will have a look at that. Dash looks to have been pulled out complete with ductwork still attached.

They aren't for the HVAC but for the speakers. They are supposed to help direct the sound out of the grilles on the dash. They are called speaker baffles.

IDK, I’ve been through the whole dash and don’t remember those.

EDIT: I said those aren’t speaker baffles, but evidently they are. They aren’t good ones! Speaker baffles should be enclosures.

Hard to judge size from the picture but could they be packing material from a heater core or evaporator?

I tried that and they didn’t seem to fit very well in the dash area behind the speakers

They go in front of the speakers between them & the grilles. They were supposed to help make the sound come out the grilles.

Looks like Wildman nailed it, found pictures of it on eBay. My 2002 didn’t have them but I guess they stopped using them around 2000. Curious how they fit, can’t find any pics installed.
