hi there - driving my 1991 wrangler w/ wipers on for about 1.5 hrs Sunday and all of a sudden they stopped. never had signs that the wiper motor was failing.. is it more likely the motor shit the bed or likely a fuse?

Happened to me once. I had to pull the cowl off the front of the hood and moved the linkage by hand and checked it all out. After I flipped the switch it came back to life and I haven’t had any issues since then and that was about a year and a half ago. Definitely couldn’t hurt to pull it apart and check your connections and clean out the cowl. Mine had all kinds of leaves and pine needles and shit in there. I cleaned up the debris and put some dielectric grease on the connectors and a little lube on the linkage too while I was in there.

I was hoping not to have to take windshield off and access that connection but may be the best bet. thanks

Sometimes the wipers can get seized to the splines on the linkages but other than that it’s a 10 minute job

No it’s a different setup. There is a small vent on the YJ cowl but I believe the wipers come out of the windshield frame on the YJ and not the TJ
