Wiring harness protection options

[Shenanigans]

Long story short, I pulled all my wiring, harness to harness, pulled all the wrap, and insulation cleaned and inspected wires...put new plastic cover over all, waiting for new computer ( SHOUT OUT WRANGLERFIX .COM )
So I am going to need a pull that plastic covering off and wrap those wires in something waterproof.

So what have any of you found , that u like ?

The wiring is adequately protected by its insulation and the plastic wire loom (cover), I wouldn't add anything else trying to make it more waterproof.

I havent seen every Jeep connector but I use these for weatherproofing connections on rewire jobs

The termination is the only area of ingress typically on a circuit unless its compromised sheathing.

has anyone else noticed how the wire loom is different on the newer TJ's ? my 97 is really good however I noticed when my brother got a 06 if you touch it it just about turned to dust. then I got a 05 and noticed the same thing touch it and it just crumbles apart.

I hope you bought some quality stuff, most off the shelf (sleeve) doesn't hold up.

I buy split loom at Harbor Freight, if it's in an area close to anything hot you can get heat resistant split loom from WireCare.com or DEI sleeves. I try and finish split loom or sleeves with heat shrink...but not always possible with already pinned connectors...hence tape.
Tessa tape is fine...I find it leaves a sticky mess if you ever need to remove it. I prefer 3M Super 88 electrical tape... thicker than normal electrical tape.

Yeah, my 92 YJ still has all the original loom. My 06 loom just crumbles when touched.

Same here with my 06 LJ. Loom crumbling away. My 99 TJ still looks great. Summit has different split loom types for under hood or not.

I think it depends more on what a given Jeep has been exposed to than the year. The loom on my 99 would crumble if I breathed on it but on my 06 it's solid. Similar mileage but 99 was a ranch jeep in the Texas panhandle and 06 lived it's entire life in greater Denver.

That said, the 06 has crows feet in the hood clear coat and the 99 didn't. Like the hood on the flame red 06 absorbed the engine heat and protected the loom where the forest green pearl held it in and baked everything.

I think it is heat related. I had two identical silverados.one i got from the coast where temps in the 80's was the max.second was from the central valley where the 100's was normal. The central valley trucks plastic would disintegrate very easily
