Hey I’d like to hook up all my aftermarket lights to racing toggle switches with the cover. How would you recommend doing that? Anybody have a step by step instructions for wiring lights to aftermarket switches? Thanks
I don't have any instructions, but it's ridiculously simple to do.
You have a positive wire and a negative wire. You will want to run an inline fuse (or install an auxiliary fuse block) and run the correct gauge of wire for the application. The switches should come with a simple pin out that show what wires go where.
Whatever switch you choose to use, make sure to use a simple 4 pin relay and properly rated in-line fuse (between battery and relay) for each switched component. It's a super cheap and easy safety measure.
Are the lights LED or halogen? Lower power LEDs don’t necessarily need a relay, but most halogens and higher powered LEDs will need a relay due to the current draw.
A SPOD might be a really good solution for you, if you need relays. If you want more than 5 circuits, I have a write up on how to install a Bussmann fuse and relay panel in the How-To section.
