Need help with factory console subwoofer wires

Here is what I came up with, with the dealership help. 2004-2006 No guarantee this is absolute, it's the best option yet. This is crazy ass-shit, and I hate it !
Why the maker can't have consistent colors is beyond me. They go back in history to promote the new jeeps, why can't they go back in history and look at the WWII Jeep.......simplicity, consistency, and plain common sense ? :)

Console Sub Plug Pin Position and Wire Color:
#1: is Blue, and connects to RF + Spkr
#2: Orange, connects to RF - Spkr
#3: Purple, connects to LF +
#4: Pink, connects to LF -
#5: Tan, connects to 12v out
#6: White, connects to fused Ignition switch / key on, acc
#7: Yellow, connected to RR +
#8: Pink/Black Stripe, connected to RR -
#9: Green/Black Stripe, connected to LR+
#10: Gray, connected to LR-
#11: Blank Space
#12: Green, connected to Ground.

UPDATE ON THE WIRES 10-4-2017:
After striking out on concrete diagrams for this, I surrendered to "Car Toys" and asked them to hook it up. In the end, the tech said that the above wire labels were good, except that I crossed up on the power. #5 Tan is actually the switched ign, and #6 White is actually the 12v constant. Every other wire is correct. Oh, I also had two wires on the sub speaker reversed, which, at first, prevented any sound coming out of the sub...
I left it, had a great man-food breakfast, discretely bought a Korean War Veteran's breakfast, and walked back to find an awesome sound coming from my Jeep. It was a little pricey, however well worth it. Hope the wire code above helps someone out.

Just in case anyone else looks this up... I believe the wiring code is accurate (with the white for tan fix). I just installed a kicker dvc 2 ohm 6.75 subwoofer in the console and patched a 4 channel alpine amp directly into the harness based on your pinout. I’m bridging 2 channnels for the sub, (voice coils wired in series to make 4 ohm) will eventually use the other 2 channels for the rear speakers. Thanks for figuring this out!

I know, thread revival...

So, I'm the process of installing my Kicker 1ohm amplifier and the Kicker 6.75" sub.
I find that there is room for that amplifier to fit inside, so that is good news.
Also, in another thread, someone was saying the Mopar amplifier was wired to a 20A fuse so I could get that power right there, inside the console.
Mind you, I would have to send 4 separate wires to the radio. 2 for the sub speaker and 2 rca cable for the output port.

My question is, what is the purpose of all the wiring of the 4 speakers going into the OEM amplifier then finally sending wires to power the original sub in the console?
Was it because the radio didn't have the RCA inputs so all these speaker wires going into the amplifier does the same job, afterall?

Should I just don't bother and put that amplifier under the dash and send wires inside that console only for the sub, instead? (That would be question #2)

The speaker wires go to the sub to give signal for the amp and it also needs power. I guess that's what really matters.

Ray,

I understand in the end, that you had to go to a stereo shop for the install. I am int he same boat... my 2003 TJ was not factory equipped with a sub-woofer console and I like the idea of having that a lot. I found an OEM subwoofer console cheap and now am trying to figure it out. Can you lend any insight into how the shop installed it? Did they bypass the OEM console amp and install a sub-amp? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks! -Michael

In the original factory wiring all 4 speaker signals get sent to the center console subwoofer amp where they are summed, low pass frequency filtered (crossover frequency) and amplified to the subwoofer speaker. There is no independent control of the subwoofer volume (relative to the other speakers) or the crossover frequency. The only pseudo-control you have is the bass boost/cut on the head unit which effects all the speakers not just the sub.

Most, if not all, newer aftermarket head units do the summing and filtering in the head so you can send just an independent subwoofer signal to an amp and directly to the subwoofer speaker. My head unit gives me the ability to independently control the subwoofer output for both relative volume and crossover frequency control. Much more control of the low end than using the factory setup.

Hi Michael,
what I have is a 6 disc stock radio. My TJ originally had a single disc. Like you, I located a sub center console, and it had the oem amp in it. I added a new Kicker sub speaker, If I remember correctly, it's the one recommended in the forum posts.

The stereo shop just wired it in. They didn't change or add any other equipment to it. For me, it was worth the expense, as I'm no longer into frustration and stress :)

Nice to see Larkspur is still standing :) I grew up in the Marin/Sonoma County areas.

Thank you very much for posting the stereo wiring information!!! It was invaluable. I’m new to the Jeep community recently purchasing a bone stock 2005 TJ (LJ). At 16 years old and 127k miles it’s one of the cleanest I’ve checked out over the past several years off and on. I wanted to upgrade the oem speakers (keep the stock single disc head unit) and ended up spending a lot of time researching various speaker options and subs. After weeks of mining information and not wanting to spend a huge amount of $ bought Polk DB+ series 4x6s and 5.25s. Found out the hard way that the front 4x6 units required mounting brackets so I fabricated them from an old license plate (an adventure in-of-itself.) installed dense foam speaker pods at the front and sound mat and poly-filled the rear pods.
For the sub, I didn’t want a dedicated amp and sub enclosure and looked at what seems like every powered sub there is but just didn’t think they’d fit neatly under the seat and didn’t want to use up space in the back just to have the sub stolen. Decided to look at refreshing the oem sub in the center console. They make replacement 6.75” subs but I wanted something more. Eventually stumbled onto a 8” 100watt rms JBL Stage 800BA on sale for $99.00. Took a lot of time and cutting but was able to finally get JBL amp and 8” woofer mounted in the factory enclosure. Fits like a glove and for just under a hundred bucks (plus some sound-mat and misc. items) have to say it’s a heck of a stealth install and actually sounds very good for an 8” sub stuffed inside the small box. I’ve seen other console installs but they either reuse the factory amp or may mount a small one under a seat which is an easier option and gives a great choice in amps. Anyway, was able to make this work the way I envisioned wanting it and the sound is good and it was a good learning opportunity. A couple of minor finish items to take care of before I can call it 100%. If anyone is interested I can post some pics and share some details. Next - evolution replace old suspension / running gear as needed and lift decisions...

I am going through this now…..I wonder if I can run a 4 channel amp to my speakers without it affecting this factory subwoofer at all?
