I'd like a few odds and ends, some backup parts. some things I dont need but would be less dented or scratched.

I would like a set of half doors, I really could use a new windshield frame, the hood could be less dented, who doesn't like to have some extra factory fog light switches. Any engine harness is bound to be less heat baked than mine.

After pricing out a few parts from a TJ salvager, I got to thinking gee, he's right they're worth more in pieces than together.

Im seeing early model TJs for 7-9k.
Ill be in this state for the next 2 years.
I figure selling hard top, hard doors thats 3k right there. motor and trans 1500. axles 500. and thats before sensors and trim and plastic junk and seatbelts and all the other shit. Keep what I want and sell the rest.

But do i have the time? Do i have the patience? what if i cant sell it all before Ieave?

Am i going insane?

You may be able to find a jeep with a blown engine and or frame rust. Buy it cheap, pull the parts you want, sell what you can, get the scrap value.

Don’t part out a perfectly good Jeep.
Not alot of "perfectly good" TJs going for 7k. they all have their issues, besides if it gets 8 other TJs back on the road or in better shape than they started then it dies a worthy death.

A custom blaine built socal rock crawler usually fetches more than a beat up farm jeep with smittybuilt bumpers so I guess that shouldn't be a surprise.
I know, I was just amusing myself. I still think it’s worth more as a whole. Not only will parting it out take a long time, it’s also going to cost you a lot more than you think for packaging and shipping. Also, the amount of time and labor you put in to doing that is worth some thing as well.

I parted my 2001 Sahara out after the frame rotted out. I made 10k on the part out.
My last rig had frame rust. got a good deal on a rolling chassis and Frankensteined them together in the garage. Sold a good deal of the first one and did pretty well.

Funny folks say "dont part em out" but my current rig started out as the end result of a part out.

I was hoping to get some rubi locker pumps in case mine go out so i asked for a quote. at almost 200 dollars a piece it adds up quick.

The shipping is my main concern. Oklahoma isnt exactly a jeep haven. And I hate going to the post office.

I would have done a frame swap if I had the space. You could have eaten off the undercarriage, it was that clean.
The frame looked mint from the outside.

I should have titled this thread "change my mind" or "tell me this is a dumb idea"

It is just really tempting when your paying premium for anything from salvagers. If you cant beat em join em right?

I made a mistake. I just went back over my part out. I made close to 16k on it. I did have a lot of expensive stuff though.
