So, the PO has painted, or plasti dipped the wheels on my TJ, and now it is flaking off and looks like garbage. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this, or take it off all together?
You’re best bet is to start over with a bare surface and polish it or paint it again.
If it is indeed plasti-dipped, you should be able to grab a loose corner and start pulling it off the surface like you’re removing a giant sticker.
A plastic razor blade would be my go-to tool to help.
I think the Rust-oleum product worked the best. You’ll need a few cans.Soon as it warms up some more on the weekends I am going to be removing the paint from the wheels also.
Are you repainting them yellow?Soon as it warms up some more on the weekends I am going to be removing the paint from the wheels also.
Plasti Dip comes off MUCH easier than paint.you guys have got me second guessing plasti dipping my wheels.
To be honest though, I was already second guessing doing it when I ordered the plasti dip a few months ago.

I left it on for a good 30 min each time. It was drying out though, maybe that is where I went wrong? How long did you leave it on? I have used 100s of gallons of the Aircraft remover over the years and without a doubt works the best for me on epoxy, Urethane, polyaspartic and acrylics. Gotta lay it on thick and let it sit for 15-30 min. If it starts to dry up apply more. A 2nd application is often required.
I have not. I'll give that a try tonight and see if I get anywhere.Tried a heat gun?
Yeah stripping sucks. Keep at it you'll get it.I left it on for a good 30 min each time. It was drying out though, maybe that is where I went wrong?
