Cynic? I’m a ray of fucking sunshine!
Oh, the rest of us know.

@JMT just saw this post about your new entry.. wow that's awesome and also the color !
A part from that incredible bumper you found on her, really nice Jeep to work on !
If I'll move to US I think I'll do a TJs collection.. 8k is so damn good for a rubi!! It's about 25-30k euros here in Europe (Italy)
Thanks! If those are the prices in Italy 🇮🇹 that’s insane. I suppose they are fairly rare. I’m glad there’s a love and appreciation of them. This one we actually got for $7500. It’s a lot of work though. The rust has been disheartening, but we are chopping away at it.

Today turned out to be a pretty good day. Getting some fresh paint on things will do that for you! K really likes Moab rims, and I do too. They are so classic. He bought some Eagle One and got after two of the wheels, after we finally got one to break free from the rotor. Thing was good and stuck. Rear rotors were so bad I traded out my old ones which were much better.

The tailgate hinges we’re using are Hooke Off-road. $45 shipped on eBay! The strange thing was they only open about 75*. I removed some metal and painted with semi-flat so they open ~91*

Welcome to the forum K, good job on the rust, that Rubicon is a good score.
BTW, I think this rig will be wearing those RE CA’s you sent. Still need to order the tool for rebuilding the joints, then get after it. What’s involved in rebuilding the joints? I’d Google it, but I’m not sure what joints they are.

Dang wish you were closer... I have the tool I'd loan ya.

The eyelet ball should be good the side race cups are for the small super flex joint. There is a set screw that holds the adjuster nut tight. You might just have to take them apart, clean, and grease them. The races were around $10 each joint.

Today was the first “big” work day on the Rubicon. We succeeded in getting the rear bumper off and in the process breaking two to three bolts, the only concerning one being inside the rear stock body mount. I worked hard all morning trying to kill the rust in the rear driver wheel well while dad worked on getting the driver side torque box mostly rust free. We suffered getting pretty discouraged looking at all the rusted out parts of the undercarriage, but we both helped each other mentally steel ourselves and push on. The end result was actually quite encouraging 🙂View attachment 321330View attachment 321331View attachment 321332View attachment 321334We then proceeded to paint the rear crossmember and prepare the rear for the new hinges. Hopefully that will help the gate from not drooping so much!View attachment 321335

Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to watching the progress. Hopefully I'll get to see you wheeling it in Moab or the rubicon one day. Sure beats the RC car you had on Moab Rim.

As I lay in my bed recovering from last week I get this text from K. It was a picture of the Jeep shed of that heinous bumper. Weighed 76 pounds! The Jeep definitely recovered some lift from this. Probably 1/2”, but with the 62lb winch removed nearly a full inch.

Winch was removed and we’ll probably re-mount it on this mounting plate. Good work K!

I’m not sure K will be on here much. He didn’t seem to interested. He mentioned asking some questions, but then when I answered the question he said, “ see, there’s no reason too really, I can just ask you.” I told him y’all would have other ideas, so we will see.

In other news, the AC and heat would only blow on high, so he replaced the blower resistor and it’s instantly fixed.

I'm sure once the builds start to look and perform different things might change with forum engagement/interest.

I've got a sway bar shroud that I could send ya if he wants it. I trimmed the front lip to fit on a previous bumper but other than that it's in good condition.
